About the event

Morrinsville Motorama is an annual event hosted by the Yankee Haulers Hot Rod Club, and spans the duration of the weekend, beginning with a Mystery Cruise on Saturday and finishes with the much looked-forward-to Morrinsville Motorama Automotive Show and Swap Meet on Sunday. Motorama first began in 2007 and is now in its 14th year. Over time the event has evolved from around 50 display vehicles in our first year to what the event is today with over 700 cars, 50 trucks and a large number of classic and Harley Davidson bikes, and choppers.

All major and minor car makes and models are encouraged to come out take part in the day, the diversity of vehicles that are represented on the day of the event is what makes Motorama so special.

There are prizes for the day ranging from Best Bike, and Truck to Top 5 Choice. Prize-giving will be done after the Miss Retro Motorama pageant at 1:00PM.

For anyone interested in having a swap or trade site check out our FAQ for who to contact.

Raising Money for Kids in Need Waikato

The annual event will be raising funds for ‘Kids In Need”, a charity in our community that strives to give children the best start in life. The last couple of years we have supported Kids in Need Waikato, Kids in Need Waikato was founded by Linda Roil in 2017 and their mission is to help children who have little to no belongings. More often than not these are Foster Children who are newly uplifted from their homes, or are going from one carer to another, and can range in age from newborn to pre-teen. Since 2017 Linda has collected donations of pre-loved clothes and toys and has created packs that she passes on to these children and gives them something to call their own.

Foster Carers take in these children because they want to help. Because they have big hearts. When a child turns up with a rubbish bag that holds their only belongings, or with nothing at all, it is devastating. Linda knows from experience; a carer isn't doing it for the money.

Linda will be at Motorama on Sunday so if you want to meet this wonderful human being keep an eye out for her Kids in Need Waikato signs! She'll be in the shade under a marquee towards the stage.

Mystery Cruise

The mystery cruise is a bit of fun before the weekend’s main event with a scavenger hunt designed to get us all to the final destination. Participation in the event is free and does not require registration.

The meeting place is along Moorhouse St in Morrinsville and details for the cruise will be explained. For most of our team it's a mystery as well, hang around for a bit, catch up with old friends and make new ones before we head off at 11:00AM. You will receive a sealed envelope containing details just in case you lose sight of others or if you get lost. The total length of the cruise will be around 150km and we will ensure that there are petrol stations along the route. We will be leaving from Morrinsville and finish in Morrinsville.

To finish off the event we'll meet back at the Top Pub, in Morrinsville at 4:00PM for prizes, food, and drinks.

Drive-in Movie

Join us as we finish off Saturday with a drive-in movie down at the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds. Each year we host a drive-in movie at the grounds of Motorama. The movie we select is always a car-related family-friendly feature so it’s a great night out for the whole family. On the night there are some food trucks to purchase food, otherwise bring your own to enjoy from your vehicle while the movie runs.

Gates for the movie will open at 6:00PM to allow time for people to get into the grounds, get to their parking spot, and get something to eat.

Trucks are welcome to the drive-in movie, access, however, will be by appointment only from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Trucks onsite by this time can remain on site until morning.

The movie will start once it gets dark, usually between 8:30PM and 9:00PM.

truck convoy

Not everyone likes cars or bikes, so we have something a little extra for our truck lovers.

Before the main show on Sunday the Truckies drive through town before entering the grounds .
Drivers meet on Anderson St from 8:30AM to leave from 9:00 to make their grand entrance into the event.
